Taylor Swift Plays Four Songs — and a Live First — at the Academy Museum Gala
At the museum’s sixth annual fundraiser, Swift debuted “The Fate of Ophelia” on stage and dusted off three favorites in her first full-band set since the Eras Tour.

Taylor Swift turned the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures into a concert hall on Saturday, October 17, closing the institution’s sixth annual gala in Los Angeles with a short, sharp set that gave fans something they had not seen in a while: Swift, a band and a live audience in the same room.
It was a four-song performance, and Variety noted it as her first full-band showing since the Eras Tour wrapped. For a star who spent the better part of two years playing stadiums, a few songs in a museum was a deliberate change of scale — intimate by her standards, and all the more talked-about for it.
A set built around a live debut
The centerpiece was “The Fate of Ophelia,” which Swift performed live for the first time. She introduced it plainly, telling the room, as USA Today reported: “This song, which we are playing for the very first time to you beautiful people, is called ‘The Fate of Ophelia.’” Around that debut she arranged three familiar titles — “Blank Space,” “Love Story” and “I Knew It, I Knew You” — the last of which she wrote for an animated feature.
The arrangements leaned on a live band rather than backing tracks, with the older songs reworked for the setting. It was the kind of program designed for a seated crowd of industry guests rather than a floor of fans, and the clips that spread afterward captured that slightly surreal mix of A-list formality and sing-along familiarity.
The night around the performance
The gala is a fundraiser, and a serious one. This year’s edition honored the actor Charlize Theron, the actor Colman Domingo and the filmmaker John Carpenter, and the museum said the evening raised more than $14 million for its programs and exhibitions. Swift was the headline entertainment rather than an honoree, booked to send the room home on a high.
The host Conan O’Brien introduced her with a line that made the rounds on its own, calling her, per USA Today, “John, Paul, George and Ringo all in one.” Swift dressed for the film-world audience in Dior, a pale-blue look that fit the museum’s black-tie register.
For all the comparisons to the Eras Tour, the appeal here was the opposite of a stadium spectacle. There were no pyrotechnics and no runway — just a handful of songs, a band and a new one played out loud for the first time. On a night built to raise money for the movies, the biggest pop star in the world reminded everyone why she is also very good in a room.
