Wizkid is spending the festive season at home. The Afrobeats star confirmed two December shows in Nigeria, giving fans a pair of live dates to circle while the campaign for his next album rumbles on in the background.

December in Nigeria has become its own cultural season — a stretch when the diaspora flies in and the live calendar fills up — and a Wizkid homecoming slots neatly into that “Detty December” tradition. The announcement, relayed by outlets including Notjustok and Voice of Nigeria, spread quickly through his fanbase.

Two cities, two nights

The first date lands in the capital. According to Notjustok, Wizkid headlines in Abuja on December 13 at Eagle Square, topping the bill of the Live Out Loud Music Festival. Five days later he moves to Lagos for a December 18 show at the Detty Festival Stage, billed as the opening night of a larger Detty December event staged with the promoter Livespot.

Splitting the run between Abuja and Lagos is a small but telling choice. Lagos is the obvious home-turf stop, but adding the capital extends the homecoming beyond the usual coastal circuit. Notjustok reported Abuja tickets would be sold through Tix Africa, with Lagos details to follow from the organizers.

The album question

The shows arrive against a steady drumbeat of fan demand for new music. Wizkid’s most recent album, “Morayo,” was released in November 2024 on Starboy and RCA — a 16-track record, named for his late mother’s middle name, that Billboard covered on release and that spun off singles including “Kese (Dance).” Two years on, supporters have taken to social media with open letters and campaigns pushing for the follow-up.

That gap is not unusual for an artist at his level, where a release is as much a logistical event as a creative one. But it does change the texture of a live show: in the absence of a brand-new record to tour, the December dates become the main outlet for all that pent-up anticipation, a place for fans to hear the catalog loud while they wait.

It also underlines how far Afrobeats has traveled. A homegrown star announcing festive-season arena shows in two Nigerian cities, with international fans planning trips around them, is the kind of itinerary that would once have been unthinkable for the genre. For Wizkid, December is both a victory lap and a holding pattern — a way to keep the room full until the next record is ready.
